「十年电影工作室」指出，是枝裕和跟高松美由纪、水野咏子、Jason Gray 和福间美由纪这几位制作人合作，挑选了五名日本导演执导新片，他们分别是石川庆、木下雄介、津野爱、早川千絵和藤村明世。 《十年日本》将会描写未来的日本，污染令人窒息，同时又深受人口老化困扰，科技依然日新月异，却不再受人控制，把玩弄人的道德和个人历史，颠覆人性，战争幽灵亦步亦趋，日本只见一片迷蒙。。William Thornhill, an illiterate Thames bargeman and a man of quick temper but deep feelings, steals a load of timber and is transported to New South Wales in 1806.
