严守一是电视台《有一说一》的主持人，由于台里领导更迭，原先的节目风格被迫改变，收视率发生了变化，总策划费墨与严守一苦思冥想，一时找不到出路。严的哥哥从河南老家打来电话，说牛三斤他爹去世了，问他能否回去奔丧。严守一回想起年少时在老家与牛三斤媳妇吕桂花打电话的有趣经历，费墨从这段经历中受到启发，他们即刻奔赴河南。严妻于文娟由于结婚多年一直未孕，心存愧疚，费妻李燕承诺回北京后帮于文娟找一个好中医瞧瞧。录完节目回到北京，严守一在一饭局上结识某出版社女编辑伍月，从此，看不见的硝烟满布了岌岌可危的婚姻......。The film opens with a narrated disclaimer over footage of an opening coffin.
