故事发生在第二次世界大战期间，为了躲避战乱，瀑谷省三郎（尾形一成 饰）远赴中国，在一家夜总会中靠着演奏长号维持生计。长久以来的孤独和压抑扭曲了省三郎的性格，他开始变得沉默寡言。战争结束后，省三郎回到了故乡，结婚成家。 妻子的怀孕给省三郎带来了久违的快乐，让他没有想到的是，儿子托尼（西岛秀俊 饰）的诞生伴随着的竟然是妻子的死亡。随着时间的推移，托尼慢慢的长大了，他早已经习惯了阴沉冷漠的父亲，以及孤独无援的童年。之后，托尼考入了美术大学，开始将精力和时间投入到了艺术创作上面，在艺术方面颇有天赋的托尼很快就取得了不小的成就，亦改变了托尼的人生轨迹。。吉井裕美（三輪明日美 饰）是一个生活在大都市里的时尚女高中生，在光怪陆离、物欲横流的时代，她身上不可避免沾染着爱慕虚荣的毛病。适逢假日，裕美和好友野田知佐（希良梨 饰）、横井奈緒（工藤浩乃 饰）、高桥千恵子（仲間由紀恵 饰）一同前往涩谷挑选泳装。偶然机缘，一枚黄玉戒指打动了裕美的芳心。为了赶在百货商场关门前买到戒指，四个好友通力合作，想方设法筹钱，甚至甘愿进行援助交际。时间一分一秒地流逝，女孩们为了戒指不遗余力…… 本片根据作家村上龙的同名原著改编，并荣获1999年横滨电影节最佳新人导演奖（庵野秀明）和最佳新人演员奖（三輪明日美）。。Greece, in the 1920's, is occupied by the Turks. The country is in turmoil with entire villages uprooted. The site of the movie is a Greek village that conducts a passion play each year. The leading citizens of the town, under the auspices of the Patriarch, choose those that will play the parts in the Passion. A stuttering shepherd is chosen to play Jesus. The town butcher (who wanted to be Jesus) is chosen as Judas. The town prostitute is chosen as Mary Magdalene. The rest of the disciples are also chosen. As the movie unfolds, the Passion Play becomes a reality. A group of villagers, uprooted by the war and impoverished, arrive at the village led by their priest. The wealthier citizens of the town want nothing with these people and manipulate a massacre. In the context of the 1920's each of the characters plays out their biblical role in actuality.。
